son of John & Elizabeth Barnett.  (Nee Lawler or Buckley or Wyatt)

Employed by the Altrincham Gas Supply Co.

Good footballer and played for the Lymm and Cheadle Football Clubs - he was
also a good sprint runner.

Secretary for the Altrincham Central Homing Society and supplied many birds
to the Government for war work in relaying messages home form the front. 

MIC - No information other than his previous number of 4551 and that he was
awarded the BWM and the VM.

WO363 - Enlisted into the 7th Bn Cheshire Rgt on the 30th March 1916.  He
was then aged: 35 years 3 months.  He stated that he had a preference to
serve in the Royal Engineers.   He was 5 feet 6 inches in height.   Chest
measurement of 32½ - 35 inches.   He was posted to the Cheshire Rgt Base
Camp, France on the 7th September 1916.  Posted to the 13th Bn Cheshire Rgt
on the 16th September 1916.   He 'enjoined' the 6th Bn from the
Expeditionary Force on the 3rd November 1916 at Home in England..  He
received a shrapnel wound to his shoulder on the 7th October 1916 and
another to his right thigh on the 18th October 1916.   Posted to the 3rd Bn
Cheshire Rgt in France on the 25th April 1917.

Wounded four times and had spent 10 months in a UK hospital after his last
wounding.   Returned to the front again in September 1917.

His death was reported in the 04/10/1918 edition of the Altrincham
Guardian.

His brother Fred Barnett MGC was KinA on 21/04/1918.    His other brother,
Albert Barnett was at Ripon (hospital ?) having been severely wounded in
action.     Another brother, Sgt Joseph Barnett R.E's had been at the front
for four years.
