Mentioned in Despatches. Article in the 18/09/42 edition of the local newspaper, about how he and friends had built a dug-out in the desert out of corrugated sheet steel that had beenn abandoned by the Germans. He had then been stationed in the Middle East for 2 years. 39 Sqn were detailed to Foggia No. 2 - Tortorella airfield, Italy w.e.f. 29th December 1943. Foggia, in central eastern Italy, is rather a long way from Malta ??? | |||
