Joined the RN in 1936 and it was his first trip on H.M.S. Cossack. Whilst escrting convoy HG.75 - H.M.S. Cossack was torpedoed at 23.37 hrs on the 23/10/41 by 'U.563' off the west coast of Portugal, in position 35.12N 08.17W. Strenuous efforts were made to save the ship, but it sank at 10.43hrs on the 27/10/41. It was a 'Tribal' Class Destroyer of which 16 were built between 1936 & 1939. They had a displacement of 1,870 tons and a complement of 200 personnel. Cenotaph lists name as F. Higson. His brother was serving in the RAF. Photo in local newspaper. | |||
