Born during the March quarter 1922 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1506, the son of John & Matilda Holland (nee Royle). Flying from 218 Sqn flew from RAF Chedburgh, Suffolk with 218 (Gold Coast) Squadron. 153 Lancasters of No 3 Group attacked the railway yards at Cologne/Gremberg in conditions of good visibility. Some of the bombing fell on the target but some overshot. 3 Lancasters were lost and 1 crashed in France. His eldest brother - John Holland was killed in a flying accident whilst training at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1942. Both brothers attended Stretford Grammar School and both are commemorated in the Stretford Borough Council WW2 Memorial Book. | |||
