Attended Eton School.    Joined RAF shortly after the Munich crisis.  
Posted to one of the two Scottish Fighter Squadrons that shot down the
first Nazi bombers on the 16/10/39.   This Sqn also did magnificent work in
the Battle of Britain, joined the Sqn 06/09/40 - shot down 07/09/40.   He
shot down two aircraft on 09/09/40.    Went to Syria with a newly formed
Squadron, that he commanded.  Shot down and wounded after only a few days
out there.

Three of his sisters were Red Cross Ambulance Drivers.

The family formerly lived at Updown House, Eastry, Kent.  His father, Major
Howard served with the Green Howards during the 1st W.W.

The 29/05/42 edition of the local newspaper reports his DFC.

The 30/04/43 edition of the local newspaper reports his DSO.  Awarded for
dashing leadership of his formations in the advance from El Alamein.  His
formation attacked and harrassed the enemy with destructive effort.
