Born on the 12th March 1892 during the June quarter 1892 in the Salford
R.D. - ref: 8d/60, the only son of Lewis Bolton & Elizabeth Kendall (nee
Magill).

1901 Census - "Keyingham House", Delamere Road, Flixton.  Son - aged: 9 -
born: Manchester.  Head of household - Lewis B. Kendall - Married - aged:
40 - occ: Coal Merchant - born: Keyingham, Yorkshire.  Also Elizabeth
Kendall - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Ireland.   Plus 2 younger sisters.

1911 Census - "One Oak", Warwick Drive, Hale.  Son - aged: 19 - occ: Clerk
at Coal Merchants (father's business) - born: Broughton, Salford.  Head of
household - Lewis B. Kendall - Married - aged: 50 - occ: Coal Merchant -
born: Keyingham, Yorkshire.  Also Elizabeth Kendall - Wife - aged: 45 -
born: Bessbrook, Co. Down, Ireland.  Plus 2 younger sisters.

A keen motorcyclist, he had won prizes at Colwyn Bay, Penrith and Bill of
Jacks.   Played for Ashley Hockey Club.   Member of St. Margaret's
Institute.

Spent two years as a Dispatch Rider and won a competition at Brooklands
that was open to both the Army and Navy entrants.

MIC - states that he originally enlisted in the Manchester Rgt (???) - No.
46462.   Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the West Yorkshire Rgt on
the 25th September 1917.  Confirms his address as "Hillcroft", Delaheys
Road, Hale.

WO363 - Aged 22 years 6 months when he enlisted into the 3rd Bn, Manchester
Rgt at Manchester on the 8th September 1914.   He had previously served
with the Cheshire Yeomanry but had bought his discharge.   Employed as a
Coal Merchant.   He was 5 feet 7 1/8 inches in height.  Weight 136½ lb.  
Chest Measurement 34½/36½ inches.  Sallow complexion - grey eyes - brown
hair.   Religion - Congregationalist.   Promoted to Lance Corporal on the
6th July 1915.  Posted to the 23rd Bn Manchester Rgt on 11/12/1916.  Posted
to Home Depot on 08/04/1917 pending admission to the Cadet Bn.  Posted to
58th Training Reserve, Kinmel, north Wales on 26/05/1917.   Discharged from
Kinmel on being commissioned into the West Yorkshire Rgt.   Service. Home:
08/09/1914 to 05/12/1916.  On being drafted to France, he embarked at
Folkestone on 04/12/1916 and disembarked at Havre on the same day.  Joined
I.B.D. (Infantry Base Depot) at Etaples on the 5th.   France: 06/12/1916 to
07/04/1917.  Home: 08/04/1917 to 25/09/1917, including service at the
Officer Training Battalion at Newton Ferrers, Devon from 14/06/1917 to
256/09/1917.  Admitted to the Military hospital, Devonport on 15/08/1917 to
22/08/1917 suffering from Pediculosis (Body Lice),

Enlisted in September 1914 with the Duke of Lancaster's Yeomanry.  After
service at the front he was commissioned in the West Riding Rgt. later
transferring to the RAF as a Pilot.

attd to R.A.F.   Died of Pneumonia in the General Hospital, Lincoln.  Death
reported in the 25/10/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.    Buried
19/10/18 - Burial No. 3,977.

His father, Lewis B. died 03/04/1930 aged 69 years and his mother,
Elizabeth died 17/05/1916 aged 51 years.    Listed as a Lieutenant on
Christ Church Memorial.
