Born during the June quarter 1893 in the Leigh R.D. - ref: 8c/311, the son
of Edward & Mary Ellen Mitchinson (nee Darby).

1901 Census - 17 New Crane Street, Chester, Cheshire.   Son - aged: 7 -
born: Patricroft.   Head of household - Edward Foster Mitchinson - Married

Mary Ellen Mitchinson - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Runcorn, Cheshire.

1911 Census  - 13 Athol Street, Winton, Patricroft, Eccles.   Son - aged:
18 - occ: Shingler - born: Patricroft, Salford.   Head of household -
Edward Foster Mitchinson - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Corporation Labourer -
born: Hayton, Cumberland.   Also Mary Ellen Mitchinson - Wife - aged: 43 -
born: Runcorn, Cheshire.

His parents later resided at 27 Chapel Place, Barton upon Irwell.

Married Lily Hudson on the 11th January 1915, the marriage being registered
in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/924.   They had one daughter - May
Mitchinson, born on the 1st May 1917 at Barton upon Irwell.

WO 363 - Enlisted at Wigan on the 12th October 1914 and embodied into the
5th Battalion, Manchester Regiment No. 2667.  He was residing at 27 Chapel
Place, Barton upon Irwell.   Whilst serving at Southport, he was charged
with being absent without leave from 10.00pm on the 11th January 1915 until
10.00pm on the 13th.  However, the case was dismissed.    Found to be
absent from Tattoo from 29th January 1915 until the 3rd February 1915 - he
was given 7 days C.B. (Confined to Barracks) and given extra duties and 6
days R.W. ?.   For reporting sick without good cause on the 4th February
1915, he was given another 8 days C.B with extra duties    For being absent
from Tattoo from the 18th April to the 22nd April 1915 he suffered the loss
of 5 days pay R.W.   Whilst stationed at Crowborough he was absent from
Tattoo from the 30th to the 31st May 1915 and lost another 2 days pay.   On
the 1st June 1915 whilst being absent from Tattoo, he was apprehended by
the Military Police at 10.30pm.  For this latest misdemeanor he was given 7
days Field Punishment No.2.   Admitted to the 2nd Western Hospital at
Manchester on the 3rd January 1916, suffering from Inluenza and  discharged
on the 10th. 

Posted to France on the 26th July 1916, embarking at Folkestone, arriving
at Boulogne the same day and to No. 24 I.B.D. (Infantry Base Depot),
Etaples the following day.   Sent to the front attached to the 18th
Battalion, Manchester Regiment.   Posted to the 18th Battalion, Manchester
Regiment on the 20th September 1916.   

Died at No. 98 F.A. (Field Ambulance) from the result of shell gas
poisoning.

His widow married Richard  Walker in 1919 and resided at 152 Ellesmere
Street, Patricroft.
