Born during the September quarter 1882 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. -
ref: 8c/610, the son of Henry & Isabella Mortimer (nee Crowdson).

1891 Census - 176 Chapel Street, Salford.    Son - aged: 8 - Scholar -
born: Swinton, Lancashire.   Head of household - Henry Mortimer - Married -
aged: 37 - occ: Baker - born: Scotland.  Also - Isabella Mortimer - Wife -
aged: 35 - born: Ulverston.   Plus 5 siblings, 1 domestic servant and 2
apprentice bakers.

1901 Census - 249 Lower Broughton Road, Broughton, Salford.   Son - aged:
18  - occ: Joiner - born: Swinton, Lancashire.   Head of household - Henry
Mortimer - Married - aged: 47 - occ: Baker & Confectioner - born: Scotland.
 Also - Isabella Mortimer - Wife - aged: 55 - born: Ulverston.   Plus 4
siblings, 1 brother in law and 1 domestic servant.

Married Elizabeth Mellor during the December quarter 1907 in the Salford
R.D. - refr: 8d/267. 

1911 Census - 79 Great Clowes Street, Broughton , Salford.   Head of
household - Married - aged: 28 - occ: Engineer's Joiner - born: Swinton,
Lancashire.   Also - Lilly Mortimer - Wife - aged: 24 - born: Altrincham.  
Plus their 2  year old daughter - Doris Mortimer.

WO363 - His first enlistment was on the 9th September 1914 at Manchester
into the R.A.M.C. and given No. 35073.   He was aged: 32 years 1 month, a
joiner by trade and residing at 23 Manley Street,  Lower Broughton,
Salford.   He was discharged on the 5th October 1914 as "not likely to
become an efficient soldier".

WO363 - He next enlisted at Salford on the 23rd October 1914.   Aged: 32
years 2 months, Joiner by trade and born at Swinton.    Previously served
in the R.A.M.C.  V.B. for 4 years - time expired No. 11075.   He was 5 feet
8 1/2 inches in height and weighed 138 lb.   Chest measurements 34 1/2
inches to 37 inches.

Due to failing eyesight, going almost blind, he was discharged as "not
likely to become an efficient soldier" on the 11th January 1915.   Married
Elizabeth Mellor at the Salford Record Office on the 30th November 1907. 
They had two children - Doris (b 23/04/1908) and Hector MacDonald (b.
23/09/1911.

Presumably, he eventually enlisted into the Royal Engineers.   No 2 Depot
Coy, Royal Engineers.  He died from Gassing.

Pension Records - Dependant - Elizabeth Mortimer.   Later quoted as
Elizabeth Clifford, 12 Egerton Street, Sale.

His widow married Harry Clifford in late 1917
