| A Member of the Pharmaceutical Society, he had been employed for 14 years, by Boots the Chemists Joined the RAF in 1942 and became a Navigator. Flying with 103 Sqn, they took off at 1647hrs from R.A.F. Elsham Wolds, Lincolnshire, in a Lancaster Mk.III, No. JB400 PM-K on a bombing operation over Berlin. No other information, except that F/O Wakefield, together with the pilot, were buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 Cem, with the rest of the 7 man crew being commemorated at Runnymede. He had been on Ops since April 1943 and this was his 21st operation - the 5th over Berlin. Pilot Officer Lewis from Sale, also died on this mission. He left a widow and a 5 year old son. | |||
