R.D. - ref: 8c/829, the eldest son of William Astley & Elizabeth Worsley
(neé Hill).

born: Hulme, Manchester.  Head of household - William A.Worsley - Married -
aged: 29 - occ: Warehouseman - born: Blackley.  Also Elizabeth Worsley -
Wife - aged: 22 - born: Ashton upon Mersey.

1901 Census - Ashenhurst Cottage, Blackley, Manchester.   Son - aged: 15 -
born: Hulme.  Head of household - William A.Worsley - Married - aged: 39 -
occ: Book Keeper - born: Blackley.  Also Elizabeth Worsley - Wife - aged:
32 - born: Ashton upon Mersey.  Plus 3 younger siblings.

Married Eliza Anna Hammond at St. Anne's P.C. Sale Moor on the 3rd July
1909.  He and Eliza lived at 351 Northenden Rd, Sale.

1911 Census - 351 Northenden Road, Sale.   (Listed as Harry) Head of
household - Married - aged: 25 - occ: Shipping Warehouseman - born: Lymm,
Cheshire (sic).  Also - E. Worsley - Wife - aged: 25 - born: Sale Moor.  
Plus Mrs. J. Hammond - Boarder (mother-in-law?).

Employed by Mr. Albert Henry Megson, Stationer and Printers - Sale.  
Member of Sale Moor Cricket Club.

WO363 - He attested at Sale on the 11th December 1915 and was enlisted into
the 12th Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers on the 7th June 1917.  At the time of his
enlistment he was aged: 31 years 88 days and employed as a Dairyman.   
Posted to France on the 7th October 1916 arrived at Rouen the following day
and posted to the Field on the 10th October, joining the 14th Bn on the
15th.  He attended the 130th Field Ambulance on the 25th November 1916
suffering from Impetigo and sent to hospital on the 2nd December 1916. 
Rejoined the 113th Trench Mortar Battery on the 15th February 1917.  He
suffered a G.S.W. (gun shot wound) on the 25th February 1917 and died at
the 12th C.C.S. (Casualty Clearing Station).

On the 7th July 1916 he was diagnosed as "Dentally Unfit" and dental
treatment commenced on the 28th July.  His dental treatment was completed
on the 14th August 1916.   At midnight on the 26th September 1916, he was
found to be absent from his post and remained so until reporting back for
duty at 23.00 hrs the following day.  Sentenced to one day's C.B. (Confined
to Barracks).  

Wounded with shrapnel in his head on the 25th July 1917 - died from his
wounds at 01.00 hrs on the 6th August 1917.

Death reported in the 28/08/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed as Harry Worsley on St. Peter's Memorial and Harry S. on the family
gravestone in Stretford Cemetery - the latter also states his age as being
31 years.  Also listed on the Stretford Cenotaph.   Listed in the Guardian
Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918, which states that he was aged 35.

Post War his widow resided at 16 St. Ann's Street, Sale.  Eliza was awarded
a pension of 15/9d per week w.e.f. 25th February 1918.

His father, William Astley died 01/08/1911 aged 48 years and his mother,
Elizabeth died 07/02/1953 aged 85 years.
