Posted to France in 1916 in time for the Battle of the Somme 1916

After a severe operation in the 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston,
Birmingham, on the eleven wounds he had received on the 1st July, he
subsequently died there following an operation to have his leg amputated.

Death reported in the 21/07/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

Unusually, the Lodge Hill Cemetery Military burials have no headstone other
than a small numbered stone let into and flush with the grassed area.
