Trafford

Born during the September quarter 1918 in the Romford R.D. - ref: 4a/693,
the son of Frederick W. & Victoria Margaret Andrews Wilkinson (nee Bligh)  
[Andrews-Bligh accoding to Lewis' birth record].  Victoria was a teacher
born at St. Hellier, Jersey, Channel Islands.

1939 National Registration - No Trace of Lewis, but his parents and a
sister were residing at 50  Fold Crescent, Sheffield, Yorkshire.  His
father was employed as an Inspector Engineer at an Armament & Aircraft
Works.

57th Bn Home Guard - County of Lancaster (P.O.).   

CWD Report No. 76.   Died as a result of falling debris at 34 Stanley Road,
Old Trafford, from where his body was recovered at 16.00 hrs on the 5th
January 1941 and taken to the City Road Mortuary, Old Trafford.    His body
was identified by his father - Frederick William Wilkinson, 50 Folds
Crescent, Sheffield 8, to whom his body was also released for burial.    He
was not married.

Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford.   This was
the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater
Manchester during WW2.   In total, thirty three persons were killed.
