Trafford

Born at Skelmorlie, Ayrshire in 1915, the son of John Eric & Ethel Wight.

Ronald was a "Battle of Britain" Pilot, (one of "The Few").   He joined the
RAF in March 1934 and was posted to 5 FTS, Sealand on 03/04/1934.

He joined 64 Sqn at Martlesham Heath on 16/03/1936 and remained with that
Sqn until 10/06/1938, when he went to SHQ staff at RAF Wittering.

He was posted to 213 Sqn there on 07/02/1939 as a Flight Commander.

On 17/05/1940 he was sent to Merville (11/45), to support the hard pressed
Sqns in France.  On 19/05/1940 he destroyed a Hs 126 and shared a Do 17.
The Sqn withdrew on 21/05/1940, with his flight going to RAF Manston.

Over Dunkirk on the 27/05/1940 he destroyed two Bf 109s, on the 28th
another and two 'probables', on the 30th he shared in a Do17 and on the
31st destroyed another two Bf 109s.    He was awarded the D.F.C on
21/06/1940.    Out on patrol,  in Hurricane N 2650 'O', he was shot down 
over Portland at 11.00 hours on 11/08/1940.
