Trafford

Born during the June quarter 1889 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/195, the
son of John & Mary Walton (nee Warrington).  Baptised at St. George's
Chapel, Carrington.

1891 Census - Carrington.   Son - aged: 2 - born: Carrington.   Head of
household - John Walton - Married - aged: 36 - occ: Farm Labourer - born:
Carrington.   Also - Mary Walton - Wife - aged: 24 - born: Carrington.  
Plus 5 elder siblings and 4 lodgers.

1901 Census - Westwood Lodge, (Residential School) Carrington.   Boarder -
aged: 12 - born: Carrington.    Residing with School Master - William E. &
Hannah Brereton and family.    His parents and siblings were residing two
doors away from the Westwood Lodge.

1911 Census - Riverside Cottages, Carrington.    Son - aged: 22 - occ:
Labourer Teamsman on Farm - born: Carrington.   Head of household - John
Walton - Married - aged: 58 - occ: Labourer at Grocer's Shop - born:
Carrington.   Also - Mary Walton - Wife - aged: 55 - born: Carrington.  
Plus 4 siblings.

Member of the choir at St. George's P.C. Carrington.

Later moved to Church View, Buck Lane, Ashton upon Mersey, where he met and
married Clara Renshaw at St. Martin's P.C. during the September quarter
1913 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/495.   They produced 2 daughters - Alice
in 1914 and Vera in 1916.

Enlisted in January 1915 and was posted to France in 1916.   He was
involved in the Battle of the Somme and was in much heavy fighting.   In
1917, he was fighting up in Messines and Passchendale.   Moving into
position ready for an attack on Beugny scheduled to commence at 05.15 hrs
the next day.  Before the attach took place, German artillery opened up and
caused many casualties in the trenches.   German machine guns were very
active causing many casualties once the attack had started.

Died of wounds in the No. 49 Casualty Clearing Station.   Death reported in
the 24/09/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
