Born during the September quarter1887 in the Northwich R.D. - ref: 8a/272, the eldest son of Hugh & Mary Timmis (nee Williamson). 1891 Census - 15, Stamford Street, Salford,. Son - aged: 3 - born: Swanlow Lane, Over, Cheshire. Head of household - Hugh Timmis - Married - aged: 31 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Delamere, Cheshire. Also - Mary Timmis - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Broomhall, Cheshire. Plus 2 younger brothers. 1901 Census - Mill House Milton, Weaverham, Weaverham cum Milton, Northwich, Cheshire. Son - aged: 13 - occ: Labourer - born: Swanlow, Cheshire. Head of household - Hugh Timmis - Married - aged: 45 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Delamere, Cheshire. Also - Mary Timmis - Wife - aged: 48 - born: Broomhall Cheshire. 1911 Census - Lower Stretton Near Warrington, Stretton, Cheshire. Son - aged:23 - occ: Work on Farm - born: Swanlow Lane, Over, Cheshire. Head of household - Hugh Timis - Married - aged: 52 -occ: Jobbing Gardener - born: Delamere, Cheshire. Also - Mary Timis - Wife - aged: 58 - born: Broomhall, Cheshire. Plus 3 younger brothers. Later employed at the Timperley Hall Farm. Married Minnie Gaunt during the December quarter 1915 in the Northwich R.D. - ref: 8a/425. Minnie was listed at Lostock Gralam in 1901, but no trace of her anywhere in 1911. In 1921, now a widow, Minnie is listed at 3 Station Road again with her family and her son -Teddy Timmis (Edward) Enlisted in 1914 and was drafted to France in 1917. His death was reported in the 3rd May 1918 edition of the Northwich Guardian, which stated that at the time of his death, he was acting as a Stretcher Bearer, likely retrieving wounded soldiers from No Man's Land when he was killed. Stretcher Bearers were very driven, took chances and were very brave, in consequence, they suffered a high casualty rate themselves. Pension Records - Widow Minnie Timmis, 8 Chelford Road, Whalley Range, Manchester. A later record shows the Whalley Range address crossed out and 3 Station Road, Lostock Gralam inserted 9minnie's parents home). Minnie was granted £5. in May 1918 and then awarded a weekly pension of 20/5d w.e.f. the 4th November 1918. Their son - Edward is recorded as born on the 7th March 1918. Minnie was born on the 16th May 1896. |
