The Arabistan was built in 1929, it's gross register tonnage was 5,874, it was 440 feet long, 55 feet wide and could make 13 knots. A cargo liner, it was one of 27 ships operated by F.C. Strick & Co. Ltd, 117-121 Leadenhall St, London EC3. It could accommodate 12 passengers. South-west of St. Helena, travelling from the Persian Gulf to the U.S. on the 14/08/42 she was shelled by, a commerce raider, the auxiliary cruiser Michel and sank in position - 11.30S 26W. There were only 2 survivors (PoWs) and 65 crew/PoWs were lost. | |||
