Born on the 4th February 1890 Eltham, South Taranaki, New Zealand, the son
of George Washington & Alice May Tayler (nee Lash)

1905-1906 • Residing at Patea, Taranaki, New Zealand.

Married Ella De Sou Riley in New Zealand in 1914.   Ella was born on the
15th January 1880, at Aorere, Golden Bay, Tasman, South Island, New
Zealand. 

I have no knowledge of why Ella was in the Uk during WW1, but she sailed
from Southampton - 2nd Class back to Wellington, New Zealand aboard the
S.S. Ruepeha on the 27th November 1922.  She was aged: 41.  Ella obviously
returned to the UK as she married Forrest Livesey during the December
quarter 1923 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/371.  Forrest was a Cotton
Manufacturer, a widower, residing at "Lyngarth", Brooklands Road,
Brooklands, Sale, employing three domestic servants..   He was considerably
older than Ella and died in 1927, aged: 70 - a wealthy man, his Estate was
valued at £64,820. 13s. 5d.    In 1928, Ella sailed to Freemantle,
Australia, arriving there on the 24th December 1928, but must have later
returned to New Zealand as she died at Tauranga, Auckland, New Zealand on
the 5th June 1945.  

Lt. Tayler, served with the 11th Taraniki Company of the Wellington
Battalion NZEF 

Lieutenant George Washington Tayler, Wellington Battalion, wrote on 25th
July 1915 to acknowledge the gifts received from the Countess of Liverpool
Fund back in New Zealand.

“The writer wishes to acknowledge on this thirteenth Sunday in Gallipoli
to the date and the day, the useful and welcome gift from your committee.
If you can imagine a bath in two pints of water with your soap and the
joyous feel of the new and clean socks you will know how joyful a soldier
can be and how proud to think that our people at home work to make us have
that comfort and joy. I am asking Mrs. Tayler [his wife] to post this to
you with my best thanks, as one envelope is my all, and paper is almost
“non est.” With many thanks.” [1]

Lieutenant Tayler was killed in action on 8th August 1915. Commemorated on
the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial, he was the 25 year-old son of
George Washington Tayler and Alice May Tayler; husband of Ella de Sou
Tayler, of “Lynngarth,” Brooklands, Cheshire.
